Hi! My name is Mike Harms. I have over 22 years of active federal service in the U.S. Army. As a Warrant Officer—a technical and tactical expert and advisor to commanders—I specialized in aviation mission survivability. My "chief" aim? Increase lethality and survivability to ensure our pilots accomplished the mission returned safely. I accomplished this through 3 core efforts: threat analysis, mission planning, and the development of tactics. Why does this matter to you?
I could not afford to wait for ideal conditions to improve lethality and survivability for my teams. They relied on me to be creative, seek innovative solutions to complex problems, and never stop trying. The environment could not be changed, we did not have an endless supply of equipment and aircraft, and the people varied in education and experience as pilots and staff. Still, I had a job to do. So, I worked with what we had and looked for ways to maximize strengths to minimize weakness until our circumstances changed. We did not wait for perfect conditions to make the perfect plan to achieve perfect results.
Although my military career is behind me, my chief aim has not changed much. I am pursuing a Doctorate in Strategic Leadership, writing a series of non-fiction books, and looking for opportunities to serve in expanded capacities. My mission is to educate, train, and partner with leaders to increase their effectiveness worldwide. I am still analyzing, planning, and developing for those who want to advance themselves and others.
